Got a B16 code at 11300 miles.

Thanks for the previous posts on DIY rear diff fluid replacement. Placed the car on solid ramps that elevate about 5". Only PIA was the initial force required to remove the drain and fill bolts. Bought a bottle pump to pump the Acura DPSF oil into the diff. Takes a lot of pumps! Anyone have a better idea?

Put in 2.67 quarts per the manual.

11300 miles seems a bit early for changing the rear diff fluid. I hope I will not have to do it at 11000 mile intervals for the life of the car. The used fluid looked clear and the magnetic drain plug had only a very small amount of fine particles attached.

i think mine came on pretty early, i reset the code and changed it at 15k instead....yea, breaking the drain and fill plugs is a pain in the ass....i didnt even bother to jack up my car, i just pulled it to the edge of my garage where the driveway starts, have a small slope and worked it from there....i didnt even use a pump, i just used a hose that attaches to the bottle of dpsf and you squeeze it in....

also, i pumped it in until it started to come out....almost 3 qts...

Just curious. What kind of gear oil did you use? Synth or conventional. What are the Acura factory requirements?

Thanks for the reply. I guess this is the price you pay for owning an awesome car, increased maintenance cost. I wonder for warranty purposes exactly what proof you need to show if you do your own fluid changes and something in the SH-AWD goes wrong? Would receipts just for the fluid be enough? maybe photos of the car while the DIY service is being done?

Receipts for the fluid should be fine. Pics wouldn't hurt but I can't see a dealership requiring them.

My friend has a lift so it easier to work under, but I'll probably use something like this pump. I know they have one that has smaller inlet/outlet so you dont have to reduce the size down from a garden hose, but I dont see it on the website. I've also seen a pump with a hand crank, but have never used it.

I just used a 4 foot long piece of clear vinyl tubing, a small funnel, and gravity. I routed the tube from the diff. and up thru the wheelwell, over the tire and out the side. While comfortably standing up, I filled it with 3 quarts in less than 3 minutes. I spent more time getting the bottle caps/seals off. I filled until it overflowed onto the drip pan underneath. Then waited for the overflow dripping to stop before re-plugging.

You won't have to change the differential fluid again until 50k-60k (presumably that's when the next '6' service should show up on your car). Your B16 came on a bit earlier than mine as I had mine done around 15k marker.
